I just discovered your Substack page and have enjoyed your columns. Since I was stuck in Missouri last winter, I decided to go all out with indoor training. I bought a TurboRocks rocker plate, a Wahoo Kickr V5 smart trainer and an Elite Rizer with integrated steering. Zwift is my app of choice. This setup makes riding fun. I don’t believe a Peloton would be nearly as enjoyable. I watch on a 40” HDTV and keep cool with a 12” fan blowing on my back and two squirrel cage units from the front. I have to use a heart rate monitor because I tend to ride too hard and overcook it if I don’t. You’d think after 35 years of riding, racing and training I’d have a better feel for it, but you’d be wrong. An added bonus is my wife feels much better about me staying off the roads with all those distracted drivers.

Hi David. Thanks for the kudos! Yeah, indoor training has a number of advantages, especially when it gets cold. I have a rocker plate too, and it makes a huge difference in comfort for me. As for distracted drivers -- I hear ya. I'm typically more worried about dogs, though. (Look through the archives for why that is if you're a new subscriber :))
