Ebikes have taken the cycling world by storm. These electrified steeds are all the rage now, and just about every traditional bike manufacturer has electric versions of their bikes. Many manufacturers out there, in fact, have only ebikes. These new-fashioned bikes have a motor that’s powered by a battery, and the battery in turn provides pedaling assistance. For some types of ebikes, you can zip along without pedaling at all, just using a throttle (like a motorcycle). Other types only provide electronic help when you’re pedaling.
#6 is the exact reason I bought a new bike for my wife and will add a motor to it. She will never be able to ride with me unless I totally reduce my effort to the point that I get no training effect. I’m planning on buying a mid-motor kit for her bike as the research I’ve done suggests that rear wheel drive units get none of the torque benefits of gearing and tend to use more power and have a shorter lifespan. I’d be curious to read your opinions about either one.
