Workout: Jan. 30, 2021
Another TrainerRoad day. The focus today was on “Over/Unders.” The idea is that during the intervals, you alternate between running just under your FTP and just over—by about 5% each time.
The intervals were 4x12. I’m getting comfortable enough now that I even know what that means! As you can probably tell, I haven’t done much structured training until recently. When I wanted to ride a bike, I’d hop on my bike and ride (or hop on my Peloton). When I wanted to run, I’d throw on my shoes and head out. No more thought of training than “go as hard as you can for as long as you can.”
Well, I’m older now, and that doesn’t work… quite as well. So this structured plan is great. But wow, is it challenging. Those intervals were killers, especially the last two.
Also trying to maintain form as much as possible. A couple of times I felt my form slip—I started bobbing a bit on the bike—so I slowed down a notch and eased off.
Was going to try and do a long rail trail tomorrow, but we’re about to get slammed with a decent snowstorm, so that’s off. Looks like another basement workout.
