It took three tries, but I’ve finally gotten a winner of the Garmin Edge 1030 cycling computer. I’m not sure why it was so difficult, but the first two winners chosen never responded to my attempts to contact them.
You may remember that I picked a winner early in January, but didn’t hear back. At that point, I asked everyone to check their spam filter, as the email might have gotten caught in that.
When I still didn’t hear, I picked another winner of the Garmin. But the exact same scenario played out again—multiple outreach attempts, no response. I started to wonder if my email address was working properly (it was).
So I started over again, and picked yet another winner. In this case, the third time was the charm, and the winner got back to me quickly. Yay! I’ll let you know more about that soon.
In the meantime, it bears repeating: check your spam filter and mark these as safe emails (assuming you still want to hear from me, of course). That way, the newsletter will make its way to you.
Just Keep Spinning, Spinning, Spinning
I also want to encourage you to keep getting those miles in, whether it’s indoors or out! I did a 50-miler last Sunday on a rail trail that took me all the way through York, PA. It was epic, but I had a serious issue: my feet were completely numb after 10 minutes, and didn’t un-thaw for a long time after. I’d bundled them properly, with heavy wool socks, shoe covers and toe warmers. It still didn’t matter.
(Interestingly, I had two sets of warmers on each foot: one at the front of my foot, covering my toes and the balls of my feet, the others covering midfoot. At the end of the ride, I assumed the warmers would be cold, since my feet were frozen. But they weren’t—they were still warm. Strange.)
Because of that, I’ve ordered a pair of these. My good buddy Ted had a similar pair on during the ride, and said his feet were toasty. Here’s hoping. I’ll review them when I’ve worn them a bit. If this doesn’t work, I’ll probably have to raise my personal minimums, and stay inside when it’s less than 45 degrees or so outside. I’m really, really hoping that doesn’t happen.
Niiiiice!
